This is the TRUE memory of the car crash. Theia gets crippled and can’t be in the astra program and Selene is unharmed. Theia at the end is pregnant in the wheelchair because she was pregnant with Helios in the car crash, with Selene being in the back seat as a child. The planet, astra, Selene, they are all real. And this time at the end we do not see the title card 'Returnal' show up. I honestly believe she died in the car crash and the entire game takes place in the moments before she moves on. Hence her going toward the light and swimming away from the dark abyss saying Helios as she breaches indicating she will finally be able to move on and be with the child. The secret ending of the game being her finally accepting what she’s done and being freed to go to the afterlife. guiding her toward the truth (why we don’t fight it) and her ultimate freedom. Octo (octopus monster) is sorta like a spirit guide to her, not an enemy. This is also kind of confirmed based on Helios telling the astronaut the story and being ignored but I feel like the connection is pretty clear anyways. Shifting black shadows are my guilt in the shape of an astronaut that became the cosmic afterbirth” which straight up confirms this is the canon explanation imo Selene is the astronaut (it represents her guilt and failed ambitions) she spent all her time trying to be accepted into the Astra program and ignored her daughter ultimately ending in her untimely death and the subsequent guilt/trauma. This time I act without thought and reach for the lost child. in the xenoglyphs there is a passage labelled ast-ax-061 which reads “white shadow, ignorant of inevitable. Would also make sense that the monster takes the form of Helios’ toy octo especially considering it was in the car. And why Selene is the one calling in the flashbacks. The game never actually told us the daughters name other than the name on the room. She is also the one who actually destroys Helios and throws this cycle into existence when she shoots herself down (because she was driving the car when her daughter died but refuses to accept it) It would also explain why the name Helios is on the door of the daughters room. The game begins with the death of her daughter and ends with her coming to grips with her own existence and physical/psychological disabilities (wheelchair scene at the end). Which parallels the actual crash in her real life. After the crash She literally says “I made it but Helios did not” and is visibly shaken. Selene is Theia and Helios is her daughter hence her trying to save Helios but leaving it behind.
